If you’re on the fence about painting your car, ask yourself a few questions. Does your car look a little lackluster? Does it rain a lot where you live? Or, have you been in a car accident? If so, you might need a visit to a car paint shop. In fact, the top three reasons you may need a new paint job are due to weather, collisions, or negligence. Here are four other telltale signs that a new paint job should be in your near future.
You Have Scratches and Dents
If you have multiple scratches and dents, even if you haven’t been in an accident, you may need to repaint your car. Neglecting to repair minor scratches and dents can lead to bigger issues down the road. If the damage isn’t or can’t be buffed out, the paint on your vehicle can peel or you may even get rust. If the scratch is deep, you will need to have a body shop repaint the car. If it isn’t, you can have a clear coat applied.
Your Car Is Red or Black
Unfortunately, red and black vehicles fade more quickly than other colors. They’re also two of the most popular vehicle colors. Red and black cars can absorb more UV light than other colors, which can wear away the protective clear coat. If polish doesn’t seem to brighten your red or black car very well anymore, it might be time to visit a car paint shop.
The Paint Is Peeling
If you notice peeling paint, bubbling, or discoloration, you could be losing your vehicle's clear coat. Typically, there are two layers of paint under the clear coat, but negligence or using the wrong products can wear away this coat. You will probably need to repaint the entire vehicle if you notice any of these problems.
Your Car Isn’t Shiny
Many people think that their car just needs a good wax if it isn’t shiny. Sometimes, that’s true. However, your car can look dull over time when the clear coat begins to thin. If that’s the case, no amount of wax will give it that rich shine again. Wax can add a layer of protection, but once it’s gone, the paint underneath can be damaged.
While repainting your car can seem like a hassle, don’t put off a visit to the car paint shop if you’ve noticed any of these signs. Doing so could cause more problems and end up being more costly to fix later on.
